B. S. Nagesh, is one of the pioneers of modern retail and has more than 32 years of experience in retail. He is a firm believer of the philosophy of 25 years of learning, 25 years of earning and 25 years of giving back. TRRAIN (Trust for Retailers and Retail Associates of India) is his way of giving back to the industry that gave him so much over the course of a rewarding career. Nagesh was the guiding force from the first Shoppers Stop store set-up in Andheri, Mumbai, where the store has now reached a national presence in 36 cities spread across India. During a rich and illustrious career in retail, he was conferred with numerous honours and awards. He was selected as one of the top 50 managers in India in a survey of Managers who can influence Indian business in the 21st century, received the ‘Top CEO Award 2001’ instituted by Institute of Marketing Management, was inducted into the Retail Hall of Fame at the World Retail Congress in 2008, was Chairman of the CII Retail Committee and Retailers Association of India, received the title of ‘India’s Greatest Brand Builder’ from Bhartiya Vidyapeeth Awards, 2005, and also multiple awards at the IMAGES Retail Awards and IMAGES Fashion Awards for both Shoppers Stop and his own professional achievements.
